Christmas Remembrance

Such a joyful 2011 Christmas week it was. Although it was tiring and mentally challenging to see the same faces for so many times in a week, i'm sure we all managed to get a hell lot of fun out of it. I'm very thankful for having something memorable to carve to this holiday of mine before it ends.

The much anticipated Camping/BBQ event with the Dragon Babies was a success! Even though the build-up was met with some last minute scares and hiccups, everything went according to plan on the actual day. Even the weather, which was terribly uninviting throughout the whole month stood in our favor. The amount of food we ordered was just nice to fill 6 of us up. The Angel and Mortal part was so sweet and hilarious. It's really nice to see everyone giving out of joy and sincerity. Such a blessing. Let me reiterate - I love my gift!

What a way to end the year with a "sleepover/heart-to-heart talk" outing with this affectionate clique. Can't love you guys enough!

Had a wonderful 2011 Xmas celebration with my Poly mates. We went to Playnation @ Selegie and

spent the whole afternoon there rocking down whole room with Guitar hero and Dance central!

Yes, i'm back with another picture of the movie "restless". Caught this film on the big screen today. Awesome. I don't know how to describe it. It's definitely not an easy favorite. I don't really dare to recommend this movie to others because it's nice in an unusual way if you get what i mean!

These 2 movies are gonna be screened soon. Watched 50/50 on monday and i love it. Some parts are very very sad. Coincidentally, both films revolve around the somber topic of "cancer". Life is too short for everyone and as cliche as this may sound, it's true. So i shall try to wake up early everyday and not sleep until it's almost time for dinner.

Might catch them again... in the cinemas this time round.

Brunch @ Bar Bar Black Sheep with the usuals to celebrate Cong's birthday. Food was at most average only but the company was great. Definitely feels rewarding albeit tired to wake up early in the morning and kick start the day. Come to think of it, it's the first time we actually met for brunch. Gotta do it more often!

Had a simple and relaxing dinner with Kaye and Jiayi just now. Felt like a typical TGIF hangout. Sadly, it's only Monday. Hang in there everyone! Look forward to Friday!

Such a Beautiful movie. You can't help but feel lucky that we are actually living in a really decent country with an above-average kind of lifestyle. You'll understand what i mean when u watch that film. It gave me a different perspective of life. People in other parts of the world are so easily pleased. Little things or actions are enough to make them wear a smile yet we are always full of complains, always so difficult to be satisfied. Maybe we just need to love life a day at a time and stop looking at the grass over at the other side.

All of a sudden, i feel really proud of myself for the most trivial reason.

i manage to keep this blog going for 7 years. edmundandfriends.blogspot.com is 7 years old!

Can't believe it. Almost a decade already.

And to commemorate this achievement, let's take a look back at the very FIRST entry that brought this diary to life

Who would expect such a casual sentence to be the start of a very very invaluable recollection. The sad thing is, i didn't pen down some of the more eventful and memorable happenings over the years. Instead, all of my earlier entries were made up of big chunk of text, about me rambling and trying to be as detailed as possible about that day's work. I think that's how most of us fill up our diary during our adolescent years right?

I'm surprise that i was able to continue with that way of writing for a good portion of my secondary and poly school days. When you look back at it, you can tell how desperate i was in trying to remember every single piece of information and it has to begin with something like

"woke up in the morning......",

transiting to

" .......after lunch, took a bus back home at 3pm with........"

and finally, with a huge sigh of relief

".......that's how my day went".

yes, sigh of relief because blogging was quite a painstaking thing for me last time. I felt that there was a need to remember the sequence of events for that day so i can record it down in chronological order.

Difficult and mentally challenging! I got too tied down by what was supposed to be a HOBBY. Not a chore. Thankfully, it didn't make me want to shut down this space!

I like what I'm doing now, typing new entries which often contain meaningless sentences once in a while. Not for the sake of sustaining this blog but because i needed too.

Last year when i just bought my macbook, i knew I'm never switching back to PCs

Before i got my iPhone earlier this year, i was more than satisfied with just about any phone that is able to call and text. To me, handphones were just mediums of communication.

Now, even after using it for almost a year, i'm still damn amazed at how and what this toy can do. It's a bizarre experience. I'm never looking at any other phones should this one die on me.

Weekend JB Getaway

Our first mini holiday together was a successful one! At least to me. Everything went well and I'm sure we all had fun. Prior to this trip, i only had 1 thing in mind when going over to JB. Shopping and eating @ City Square!

It was only until recently that we realized JB actually has good and cheap seafood! Really value for money. The place we went to was situated by the sea. Amazing setting. Will definitely revisit the restaurant again. We need to go for the massage @ city square next time round too

Happy 23rd

Had a wonderful birthday celebrations @ Nabins with a wonderful group of lovely friends. Words alone are not enough to express how grateful i was. To say i'm happy that night is an understatement.

Thanks to everyone who came. Love the presents as well!

Happy BBQ

Had an enjoyable bbq session @ ecp with the usuals. Normally we would invite most of our ex secondary school mates for such event but decided to just have it within ourselves this time round. Lesser the merrier in this case!

Everything went well. Weather was awesome, food was great albeit a little too much for 7 people. The pit we chose was also very well situated. Carpark and toilet just behind us! Ended the night with some CLUEDO. Not the best game to play at that point of time. All of us were too zoned out!

Istana Open house

The Istana was opened for public visiting last sunday so i went there with my grandparents, eager to see how the official residence of the president is like.

Sadly, we didn't delve deep enough to see the buildings. It was quite a far walk in. Not convenient for the elderly!

National Day Cycling

Sadly, only 4 of us were able to make it that day. But like what i mentioned previously, the lesser the merrier!

We cycled all the way to NSRCC and back. So much memories just by looking at that place. Poly class chalet, secondary class chalet, not once but a few times already. One of the best chalets in Singapore by far!

And poor Shellen, the 2 hours of cycling seem like a torture for her. All in the name of fun dear. hahaha Went over to Cineleisure to watch "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" in the evening. Love that movie! Don't let the (stupid looking)poster and (verbose)title trick you into thinking that the movie is stupid!

School

It's the 3rd week of school now and the ennui of lectures is starting to kick in. Morning lessons at 830am is really torturing. For once, i actually felt very concerned about the availability of seats in the train. It's getting increasingly frustrating when i have to stand all the way from Tampines to Dover. But i guess i had my share of convenience during poly.

Lesson wise, its lectures, lectures and more lectures. 3 hours each. No matter what, going to school is definitely a thousand times better than booking in!

TGIThursday

Our company had a mini event today to celebrate "Bastille Day (France's National day)"!

Yummy food, pastries, beers and fun people all gathered at the roof garden. Such a lovely sight!

This is one of the reasons why i enjoy working here. Everyone seems so casual and laid back. U get to work with people from all the different countries which is very fun. I guess it's safe to say that this is the first ever job i had that makes me want to continue not entirely because of the money, but the place and people!

One of our colleagues made Tiramisu for us for lunch today. It was really good. However, Kaye and I felt a little bit tipsy after that. hahaha

What a fun week it was. Meeting wonderful people for lunch and dinner. Looking forward to after work tmr.

1 thing i'm definitely gonna miss working at tanjong pagar is the FOOD. Theres so so many hidden gems around that area. All of a sudden, i feel like a tourist.

Ever since i started working 2 weeks ago, i haven't had much time to do my own stuff. By the time i reach home after work, i'm only left with 4 short hours before bed time. And the cycle repeats itself till friday.

It's quite a sad thing but we've gotta get use to it. Life doesn't come easy on you. I'm not complaining. I've had worse.

It seems that July is going to be an exciting month. Looking forward to outings and meetups with friends!

i saw an email from my aunt today when i opened my inbox. The title of it was

"Back from Alaska Cruise tour"

i was stunned for awhile. it's ALASKA!!

We almost wanted to go to Alaska instead of Venice the other time.

Maybe it's a sign. It's calling for me!

Euro Trip

Italia! I miss the place so badly. What an amazing experience! Every time i look through the hundreds of photos, i feel so awestruck. It is indeed a once in a life time experience.

It was really a well spent 10 days over there. We flew off to Venice first, stayed for 2nights then took the train down to Rome, stayed for 3 nights, then train down to Florence, stayed for another 3 nights and back to Venice for the last 2 nights. We also went up to Pisa during our stay in Florence since it was only an hour ride away. You might have guessed it, the leaning tower was the only reason for going there.

All of the research and planning we did was extremely beneficial and valuable. Not too bad for us 1st timers! My greatest concern prior to the trip was our accommodation. I believe many would agree that a lousy lodging alone would be enough to ruin the whole trip. The 3 hostels we booked online was purely based on other user's review. My cousin, whom has been extremely helpful, gave his opinion when i showed him a few hostels which i short listed. However, due to much procrastination, those places were fully booked when we were about to pay for them. So we had to look at others and trust our own judgement this time round. But all in all, i would safely say that we are incredibly lucky or maybe, born to be travelers because the 3 hostels we booked was really what any back packers would have wanted. There's free breakfast and the environment was decent too. Definitely value for money though we could have gotten better deals if we searched earlier.

I've uploaded a few hundred photos on facebook which was pretty insane and i don't think many will look through every single one of them but i know i will! This was also the first time i used my phone's camera so extensively that the amount of pictures i took totaled up to around 4gb.

So lets look back!

We took the 0140 flight from Singapore to Dubai where we will transit from there to Venice. The journey was around 7 hours long! But luckily, Emirates airline have good entertainment onboard. The refreshments was quite yummy as well.

We thought we could go out of the airport to take a look while waiting for our next flight but apparently, you are not allowed to when u are transiting flights. So we grabbed some starbucks and waited impatiently for the next 3 hours to come

And after another 5 hours of flight, we landed safely at Venice's Marco Polo Airport! I remembered smiling happily to myself the moment we stepped out of the airport because the weather was extremely cooling even with my jacket on! So we more or less knew how our next 10 days would be like. Awesome! haha. We had to buy bus tickets before boarding the bus. Took us quite awhile to figure that out. We also bought a map and city guide which was absolutely essential and it cost us 2.5Euros. Without the map, i doubt one can find his way back to the bus station when roaming in Venice.

We took bus no.5 from the airport to our hostel which was about 10mins away. We saw the actual pictures of the area we're gonna live in on Google Map so we instantly recognized the place when we alighted.

Breakfast served to your room!

What better way to start the day than to have breakfast at the balcony and enjoy the really cooling weather!

I will always remember my reaction the moment i walk up that bridge. The scenery was simply unbelievable. I couldnt believe i'm actually in Venice, and not looking at Google Image. hahaha. We bought our tickets to Rome too. It's 75Euros per person. Most expensive ticket amongst the others we bought.

Basically we visited the some of the main attractions in Venice over the 2 days. The more popular ones would be the "Rialto Bridge" and the "Piazza San Marco aka St Mark's Square" which is the main public square in the city where the Doge's Palace, Bell Tower, St Mark's Basilica and other museums can be found!

We decided to opt for the easier travel option which was to take the water bus (6.50euros per person) to St Mark's square. It's possible to walk there which will take around 20-25mins but we felt the need to try taking those boats at least once.

I think we paid around 5-8euros to go up the Bell tower. The view from the top was amazing

This is the only chinese restaurant we came across. Feels so homely all of a sudden. haha

And of course, one of the many things that we were extremely fascinated about are their alleys!

Some were extremely dodgy while majority of the others were really very "Venice-esque". You can actually find some restaurants hidden in some corner. It's also very tempting to just sit on the steps by the canal and relax.

Imagine having a meal with your friends in such tranquil surrounding. I wouldnt want to leave

Carnival masks are very popular in Venice. There are so many different kinds, each with a meaning behind them! How nice it would be if we get to witness a masquerade party.

When people talk about Italian food, I'm sure the most common ones would be Pasta and Pizza!

and you wouldn't want to miss their Gelato Ice cream. It's so nice and addictive that we had to buy at least 1 every day.

Don't get fooled by the classy looking wines we ordered. It cost us only about 2.50euros! Almost the same price as their mineral water. Amazing!

And lastly, Martina! one of the extremely friendly staff at "Feel Inn"

Before we checked out, we decided to book another 2 more nights for the following week as we will be coming back to Venice from Florence before flying back to Singapore. Gotta love this place!

On the day when we were supposed to take the train down to Rome, we did an exceptionally stupid thing. BEING LATE!

That morning didnt start off well. We slowly took our time packing up and eating our breakfast. It was only when we were about to leave that we realised we are actually gonna be LATE for the train. Rushing down to the bus stop didnt help as the bus took a good 15mins to arrive........

Had our long awaited poly class gathering ytd evening and it sure was fun. Feels good to actually see so many turning up for this meetup. Steamboat at "Le Le Pot" was pretty good and satisfying but we had to split ourselves into 2 tables which makes the fellowship less gratifying. Spent a good 2 - 3 hours there which we also celebrated Wy's birthday.

Most of the class outings we had in the past always end after the main event. But our night only ended at 3am yesterday after the long and hilarious karaoke session at Bedok Point. The room we had was totally perfect for us rowdy people. It's big enough to lie down in all sorts of position and sleep. Entertainment was great. I guess everyone enjoyed themselves as much as i did. Thanks for the fun!

i just woke up from a scary dream. I got myself into a fight with 4 guys and they were using satay sticks as their weapon while i was holding a trident. It happened at bedok, outside some 7-11.

Initially, they were afraid of my trident and wanted to retreat but after a round of rock-scissors-papers within themselves, they decided to fight. That's when i start to lose my lionhearted front.

The whole scenario was like a movie itself. Being extremely outnumbered, i was taking small steps back and they were slinking towards me. I continued all the way till i reached a coffeeshop and thats when it got more intense. When it looked like we were going to charge towards each other, i managed to somehow conceal myself using the crowd and fade away from the fracas. I then quickly ran back to the 7-11 and hid there for awhile.

And like most dreams, my abrupt ending was me running over to the bus stop opposite, disposing my weapon along the way and boarding the bus to escape like a chicken.

I was extremely afraid of getting severely injured if we were to fight heads on. So escaping was a smart move. We all live to fight another day. right!

Yesterday marks the first year of my driving license which i didn't thought much about it initially. I didn't really bother treating it as a milestone because that credential is rather trivial to me in many much cases.

But coincidentally, my uncle was asking if i want to drive his car over the weekend, since he won't be around to use it. I was quite hesitant at first but i thought such opportunity couldn't have come at a better time. There would also be less restrictions on driving license after the first 12 months.

So i collected the car today in the morning and started my virgin cruise down the fast lane. My phone came in handy as i wasn't confident in my directions. However, there were still times where i completely missed the turn or the exit and i had to find my way around to get back there again. But the most delightful thing about driving alone is the absence of unwanted naggings from the passenger's seats. I can also enjoy laughing at my own foolishness and mistakes.

Sunday morning couldn't get much more nerve-racking than this!

The sad thing is, i'm unable to fully utilise the ride because almost everyone is busy tmr and i don't have anywhere to go after my (another) morning trip down to sgh :(

i went to sign up for my first ever guitar lesson today at parkway central. I guess it's about time i do what i like to do and bring it to the next level.

My first lesson starts next wednesday and i'm pretty excited about it!

For once, i'm beginning to have a clearer picture of what i want to do in the future.

But still, having a plan only makes u feel secure, so at least you have a reply when others ask whats to come for you.

Is it really going to be the life that you are gonna lead, or a one that's left for u? Only time will tell

The 2weeks spent there wasn't entirely that difficult and tormenting. There were still times where i very much relished what was going on. Thankfully, the instructors and people there are nice and friendly. If not, the 5days out in the jungle would be a nightmare. Speaking of which, i'm extremely fortunate to have a hammock with me. It really is godsend. I can't imagine what kind of creatures i'll surround myself with if i've slept on the ground. The mutated ants alone is enough to give u the creeps. I've never seen such gigantic ant before. Sadly, i didn't have a camera with me. haha

It's back to work tmr. Decided to save up my offs and leaves till the next few weeks where i'll slowly recede from view.

Just had a nice dinner with the guys @ bark cafe. Really cosy and comfortable place! Kind of reminds me like the timbre @ Mt Sophia. Have been wanting to try it out ever since i got posted to my current camp as it's just 1 stop away. The only thing that's lacking there is a LIVE BAND! Food was above average. Thankfully i'm on a weeks break now. Couldnt have come at a better time. I'm feeling depressed about having to fly off to brunei in 3 days time which will forbid me from attending my cousin's wedding with my parents on thursday at KL.

Somehow i still can't come to terms that 2 weeks will past by in a blink of an eye and that it's a week lesser than my previous thailand trip, if it makes me feel any better. For this reason, i feel like doing a whole lot of things before i go, as though i'll be gone for good. So many things going on in my mind right now. Feels like i need to make every minute count.

I rewatched "It's kind of a funny story" today and i'm definitely gonna watch it again soon. It's really addictive and gratifying.

So I'll try to make the next few days well-spent. Like i said, my mind is in a state of disarray now. Hopefully things will fall in place when i wake up tmr.

Went to Sentosa Cove to celebrate Ly's 23rd. First time attending a Yacht party and my god.. the whole place is breathtakingly b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l.

And for once in many years, i shall upload pictures and more pictures in an entry!

This is the kind of life that everyone dream to have!

Time to work hard and be a resident there.

Happy Belated Halloween!

Celebrated my first ever Halloween with Wy on Saturday @ Escape Theme park.
It was a pretty fun night! Paid 12 bucks for the tix. Queue was damn long and the whole place was filled with kids and young teens.. which means noise and more noise filled the air.

There was a mini halloween masquerade parade where the workers dressed themselves up as some ghastly looking creature. Quite cool looking, especially the Medusa with the real snake around hes neck! Sadly, We didn't have a good camera to snap some pictures of them. Wasted!

We managed to play some of the rides inside the theme park, like the pirate ship and the flume ride! We also went into the "Haunted House". But it wasnt that scary. Toomany props were used=\

We found casper!

Went to NYNY for dinner after that. Mac & Cheese ftw!
